Doogee S88 Pro Review

Rugged smartphone with 10000mAh battery.

Today we will talk about an interesting model called Doogee S88 Pro.

In addition to the fact that the smartphone is completely protected from water, shock, and dust, it also received good technical features. For example, I can attribute to them – this is a large battery capacity of 10,000 mAh, good performance thanks to the Helio P70 processor and memory for the 6/128 GB version.

Also, a rugged smartphone from Doogee received an unusual appearance with a large screen on the front and a triple main camera on the back of the case. An added bonus is the Android 10 OS and NFC module.

In the box

Inside the box, you will find an envelope with documentation, a protective film for the screen, and an ejector for the SIM card tray.

Under the envelope is the smartphone itself in a protective cellophane film. On the right side, there is a 24 W fast-charging power adapter, a Type-C power cable, a Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter and cords.

Design

It is not difficult to guess that the Doogee S88 Pro smartphone has received quite large dimensions, both in size and in weight. For example, the dimensions are 171.6 x 85.5 x 18.7 mm and weigh about 372 grams.

The back of the smartphone uses a combination of metal and plastic inserts. In test we have an orange color that goes well with a military camouflage style. The manufacturer also offers two more colors – green and black.

On the back panel, there are three main camera modules with LED flash. Just below the main camera, there is an LED illumination with an Iron Man eye shape. In the settings, you can set in which case it will work. For example – this is when you receive a new message, call, or charge.

At the bottom on the back, there is a single speaker that plays quite loudly. But it’s hard to call it high-quality since it lacks bass and clarity.

The front panel received a 6.3-inch touchscreen IPS screen with Full HD resolution. There is a waterdrop notch at the top for the front camera, which is not bad for a rugged smartphone. But the bezels around the screen are quite large, although I cannot mark this as a minus, given that the edges of the smartphone must be massive from various falls or other troubles.

The quality of the screen itself is pretty good, the picture is very bright and rich. Therefore, even in bright sunny weather, looking at the screen will not be uncomfortable. In general, I liked the quality of the screen matrix, both in contrast and viewing angle.

The bottom end of the Doogee S88 Pro smartphone received only a Type-C connector for charging and for a 3.5 mm adapter. The connector itself is closed with a tight cap, which is rather problematic to open. But a scraper, which is already supplied in the kit, will help to open it.

On the right side, there are the usual control buttons – the power button and the volume rocker. But on the left side, there is a slot for a hybrid tray and two additional buttons. These buttons can be customized to suit your purpose. For example, a single press will open the camera app, while a long press will open the YouTube app.

In terms of protection, the device has received the IP68/IP69K standard. That is, the S88 Pro smartphone can easily survive in extreme conditions of use. Low or high temperatures are not afraid of him, as well as water, dirt, and even fall from a small height.

Performance and software

The new rugged smartphone Doogee S88 Pro also boasts good performance thanks to the Helio P70 processor from MediaTek. The chipset itself was introduced in 2019 and it shows good results both in real life and in benchmark tests. Also, the processor is built on eight cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.1 GHz.

Helio P70 works in conjunction with the ARM Mali-G72MP3 graphics accelerator. As practice has shown, even heavy games will not be a problem for a large smartphone.

Inside the smartphone was installed 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Also, the user will be able to increase the memory thanks to a microSD memory card up to 256 GB.

As for the operating system, the Doogee S88 Pro uses an almost pure Android 10 version. During my use, I did not find any freezes or slowdowns. Any program opened quickly and even the most difficult.

It is also worth noting that the smartphone has received a global firmware. Therefore, there will be no problems with communication or languages, like most Chinese smartphones.

Additional features include a dual-band WiFi, GPS, and NFC module, as well as OTG and OTA features. I was very pleased with the presence of a contactless payment module, which is rarely found in low-cost smartphones.

Camera

The main camera of Doogee S88 Pro received three modules, where the main sensor has a 21-megapixel f/2.4 aperture. Daytime photo quality is pretty good with good detail and vibrant colors. At night, the quality deteriorates slightly and a slight sepia appears.

The second and third camera module has 8MP resolution, with one for ultra-wide shots and the other for bokeh mode. Both modes don’t work as badly as I expected.

Video recording of the main camera received only 1080p and 30 frames per second.

The front camera is 16-megapixel and has an f/2.0 aperture. At the same time, the quality of photos on the selfie camera is pretty good.

Battery

Another feature of the Doogee S88 Pro is its very large 10,000mAh battery. The battery life on a single charge is very long, and as my practice has shown, the smartphone can work with active use for about 4 days.

For example, 1 hour of watching a YouTube video at maximum brightness discharged the device by 3%. During the games, the phone was discharged in half an hour by 2%. That is, the resource of work on a single charge is very massive.

I can also note the wireless charging function and the presence of fast charging with a 24W power adapter. The charging time in the first case will take you a little longer – about 4.5 hours, and in the second – 2.5 hours.

Conclusion

Doogee S88 Pro is a new progressive smartphone that has received many interesting features for the 2020 smartphone.

The first is a protected and sturdy case that can withstand water, dirt, and falls. Also, large battery capacity will allow you to use the device for a very long time and not charge your smartphone every day.

Of course, the camera’s capabilities are not very wide, but the quality of pictures in the daytime is very good. The same can be said about performance, that is, you can safely play heavy games or run programs.

On the downside, I can mention the large size and weight, which makes the smartphone inconvenient for everyday use.
