FAQ for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B + Bluetooth 4.2 Development Board

  • I've plugged my Raspberry Pi in, but nothing is appearing on the screen. What's wrong?

It is important that you connect your cables in the correct order, ensuring that the HDMI cable is plugged in before the power.
  • Only the red light on my Pi is on! Is it broken?

    1. Check that your SD card is inserted correctly into your Raspberry Pi.

    2. Check that your SD card contains the software required for the Raspberry Pi to boot.

  • Do I need another computer to use a Raspberry Pi?

You don't need another computer to use a Raspberry Pi, as it's a computer in its own right. However, when you need to create new micro SD cards, you might need occasional access to another computer.
  • I've copied NOOBS to an SD card, but it gets stuck on the splash screen. What should I do?

If NOOBS won't load once you have copied the files over, it may be that you have a corrupt SD card. If you've tried a different SD card and NOOBS still doesn't work, then you might want to try installing Raspbian directly.
  • I have a Raspberry Pi 3. Do I need a special power supply?

For most uses, the original official power supply will be fine.
  • Why Raspberry Pi boot sequence failures?

Unlike a PC, the Raspberry Pi does not have a BIOS, so without a working software image, it is stone-cold-dead. Without a working OS, and if the power supply works, the only thing guaranteed to happen is that the red power LED turns on. If an image at least starts to boot, then looking at the status LEDs and the HDMI monitor can provide some indication of where the boot process failed.
  • Rainbow screen, what can i do?

The rainbow flash screen should only appear for about a second (good). If the boot process halts with the rainbow screen on the monitor (bad), there may be a power supply issue, or a kernel software problem.
  • Bad or missing SD card, what is the problem?

Using a Raspberry Pi 2 as an example, if there is no activity on the monitor and if the red and green status LEDs stay lit and un-blinking after power up, the SD card may not be fully inserted, not detected properly, not flashed or not formatted correctly.
  • No WiFi networks found during discovery scan?

The activity LED on the WiFi dongle provides minimal indication of WiFi activity. If No WiFi networks are found, and it is flashing normally, there is no WiFi reception. If not flashing at all, the power requirements of the WiFi dongle may be over 150 mA, too high for a Pi USB port, or over 300 mA on a Pi B+, 2, and later versions (unlikely).
  • Why local WiFi network not found?

It may take one or two minutes to find all available WiFi networks. If the local network does not appear in the list, the WiFi portion of the local router may be down or disabled, reception may be bad, or the router may not be responding to WiFi discovery.

    Pros:
As a Programmer who have never coded in Python before, I found this book and it's examples quite good. Got me to where I needed to be to take things to a whole new level and make learning Python easy. If you are not already a seasoned programmer, this might be a bit more challenging because you have to learn how programming works while also learning Python. Certainly not where I would start, mostly because Python syntax is quite different from most other commonly used languages.

5 star because it is exactly what it says it is and does a great job showing how to program in Python.

    Great purchase!

    Pros:
I love these guys, I have a handful of them running various machine networks around my home office, including an printer, a DNS server, and a few others. Absolutely awesome value, hands down. The two units I will disclose are running Pi-Hole DNS and Repetier Server flawlessly. The 3D print server is on WiFi, and the DNS is on Ethernet with excellent results.

    Runs well
    Color:Clover Green
    Pros:
I really wish I could give this product 6 stars because it's worth it. I was trying to decide between this and another and ended up picking this because I needed a separate OS and PC for learning to code and this fit those requirements. This is an amazing product in such a small package!

I was skeptical of these when I first decided to give them a go, but I quickly fell in love. It’s a computer in the palm of your hand! All you’ll need is an hdmi cord, a screen, and a mouse/keyboard and you’ve got an insanely low cost desktop.

This was my first time trying out a small ARM computer. I had so much fun with it. I used mine to create an emulator system so I can play all my old games without dragging out all my old systems. It works perfectly.
